about

I wrote this yesterday and recorded it straight away, all done and released within 30 hours, I'm wrecked but it feels great.
I really needed to write this song as a kind of reminder to myself, I'm on a particular path that is not easy and yesterday was the darkest day yet, sometimes songs are like promises to yourself, if it's in writing or recorded it's a bit like a pact, you can't be breaking the pact now boy!
I really like songs that stick in your stomach, words that are so visceral it leaves you with a feeling long after it's finished, and sometimes I just sing how I'm feeling no matter how exposed it leaves me because that works for me, I feel better, and yesterday I needed to feel better.
It's not a downer, I've now got this new song which didn't exist before and I'm quite pleased with it.
Enjoy with a fine wine.

lyrics

Not starting fights with your friends or your neighbours
You stole a glass from the bar just to say so
But no one stares when your life’s only half wrong
You could leave through the front door, no one would know.

They say that girls love the bad guys
You never understood
But now your balls have fallen off
It is lonely being good
There’s a summer and more
To be practicing your craft
Maybe sing a couple of songs
To the loner at the back
I needed more from the room
I needed more from myself
I needed someone just as cynical
To use me just for kicks

Can I stay? Can I stay the night?
I won’t be difficult, If that’s alright?
I’ve heard these songs before but they never struck a chord
I’m not sure what I need
Suppose I’ve never came back home from war before

If human touch was a red blooded female
She is laughing with her friends at the short man
She quotes a line from the gospel of fuck knows
"Even Jesus made a mess of his white robe.”

They say that girls love the bad guys
You never understood
But now your balls have fallen off
It is lonely being good
There’s a summer and more
To be practicing your craft
Maybe sing a couple of songs
To the loner at the back
I needed more from the room
I needed more from myself
I needed someone just as cynical
To use me just for kicks

Can I stay? Can I stay the night?
I won’t be difficult, If that’s alright?
I’ve heard these songs before but they never struck a chord
I’m not sure what I need
Suppose I’ve never came back home from war before
I’m not sure where to bleed
Suppose I never came back home from war

You can’t see the tourniquet, the worry lines
The bleeding knees or damaged mind
The nights all lost in champaign lust
The excuses made for fucking up
The line of folks who think I’m just a lying, cheating mess
They may be right, where’s all my friends
When I had toxic evil breath?
Today is not a good one, you can tell it from the words
But I will sing my panacea and then go rejoin the world
Cause optimisms fun and it’s sure morish for a while
But the little cunt inside just fancies loneliness.

Can I stay the night?
